Steve Schneider graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1967. His initial training as a young attorney was with the law firm of Smith, Bokos and Jones under the tutelage of Charles Bokos, who later became Judge Bokos in the Garden City District Court.
Steve has been practicing law since 1968. His very first trial was the Algiers Motel case, during the course of the Detroit riots. The Defendant, security guard that he was representing was successfully acquitted.
Shortly thereafter, Steve successfully represented Reverend C. L. Franklin, Aretha Franklin’s father against meritless criminal charges. Again, the Reverend was successfully acquitted.
From there he focused on the general practice of law in the Tri-County area. However, in more recent years, his practice has been more dedicated to particular areas of the law, which include Probate and Estate Planning, Commercial Business Formation/Organization and litigation, Domestic Relations and Bankruptcy. In 1994 he came to the small rural community of Almont to be closer to the people he served.
Mr. Schneider has represented the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department in particular litigation matters in the Lapeer County Circuit Court.
He also served on and was a to presenter the Macomb County Law Enforcement Commission. He was responsible for updating all chief law enforcement officers in Macomb County as to changes in the law.
Mr. Schneider also served on the founding board of the Lapeer County Community Foundation.
Because Mr. Schneider is passionate about the law and the youth in our community, he taught the moot court program at the Almont High School for three years.
To further his involvement in the community, he was elected to the Almont Village Council in 1995, and is now in his tenth term as President of the Village.
As the President of the Village, Mr. Schneider also holds a seat on all of the Village Boards, including the Village Planning Commission, Downtown
Development Authority, Zoning Board of Appeals, Park Board, as well as multiple committees. He is also currently a member of the Almont Chamber of Commerce.
Attorney Steve Schneider's involvement in governing of the Village has given him the opportunity to know the problems of our residents and those of our surrounding communities, as well as the personal issues faced by our citizens, which allows him to problem solve for both his clients and the community.
